Opeth is a heavy metal band from Sweden. There is wide divergence regarding which sub-genre of metal they actually play, considering that Opeth adds several lighter elements to their music, such as acoustic guitar interludes, influences from jazz, 1970s progressive rock, blues and folk. Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt performs both clean singing and death vocals. All of these facts added result in a unique blend of musical styles. Åkerfeldt said in a recent interview: "I don't see the point of playing in a band and going just one way when you can do everything. It would be impossible for us to play just death metal; that is our roots, but we are now a mishmash of everything, and not purists to any form of music. It's impossible for us to do that, and quite frankly I would think of it as boring to be in a band that plays just metal music. We're not afraid to experiment, or to be caught with our pants down, so to speak. That's what keeps us going." Opeth have also been influential in the doom metal genre and have attracted a lot of doom metal fans. The name Opeth was taken from the novel Sunbird by author Wilbur Smith, and was originally spelled Opet. Mastodon is a Grammy-nominated heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia. They are usually classified as a heavy metal group, but there have been debates on what specific sub-genre they belong to. There is also a clear hardcore influence on the band, unsurprising as several of its members previously played in hardcore bands.
Mastodon's style includes heavy (and sometimes quite complex and technical) guitar riffs, complex, jazz-influenced drumming, odd time signatures, and long, melodic instrumental interludes, which are all common aspects of the progressive rock genre.

El nombre se deriva de la Quimera, un monstruo con cabeza de león, cuerpo de cabra y cola de serpiente, en la mitología griega. En otro blog encontré esta referencia hacia ellos: "Una banda joven, y muy interesante. Una mezcla del hardcore clasico, metal progresivo y trash, y la electronica, lo esta convirtiendo en una banda para escuchar seguido.
